1    GENERAL

Work may be processed by either photographic or digital means but must originate solely from the member’s own images, captured either by means of a camera or by the action of light on a photosensitive medium.  An external judge will assess and mark all competitions.

2    GROUP 1 AND GROUP 2 PRINTS, CLUB DIGITALLY PROJECTED IMAGES (DPIs), AND CLUB SLIDE COMPETITIONS

2.1 General

There will be up to 5 rounds of each competition throughout the season.  Members may enter up to 3 prints and/or 3 slides and/or 3 DPIs in each round (ie a maximum of 15 entries in each section).  All images will be marked out of 10. The winner of each competition will be the member who achieves the highest aggregate score for the BEST TEN RESULTS giving a maximum of 100 points in each section.  Trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up of each competition.

2.2  Group 1 and Group 2 Prints

On joining the Club, members may enter group 2 of the print competitions. This group is intended for members who are either beginners or who are at the intermediate stage of photography and their images are judged accordingly. The winner of group 2 MUST move into group 1.  The Committee may consider promoting new members directly to group 1 who they consider to be suitably experienced and qualified.

Prints may be home or trade processed in monochrome* or colour and for internal club competitions may be any size.  However, in order that they should fit into the Club’s pre-formed frames, for exhibition purposes the overall measurement, including the mount, must be 500mm x 400mm.  For safety reasons prints in glass frames are not permitted.  All prints MUST be marked on the REVERSE side with the author’s name and the title of the print (to assist the Competition Secretary with identification).  Prints are to be submitted on the evening of the competition and not later than 7.15 pm.

2.3  Club Digitally Projected Images (DPIs)

This competition is open to all members of the Club (there are no groups).  The images may be in monochrome* or colour and must be submitted either on a CD, memory stick, memory card, or by e-mail no later than the Thursday of the week preceding the competition.  Images must be submitted in JPEG format (excluding JPG2000).  The image file name must consist:  ImageTitle_Author’sName_MonthOfCompetition.jpg.  (note that the two links separating the three parts are “underscores” – use the minus key shifted/capitalized).  No spaces at all can be used and no full stops can be entered between the author’s initials.

The format is as follows:  1024 pixels horizontally and 768 pixels vertically or a maximum of 768 vertical pixels for portrait images.   Where the chosen image ratio is not 4:3 and hence not exactly matching the above, a border (black is best) should be added by the author to create an overall image of these specified dimensions.  The file size must be a maximum of 1 Mb and preferably 500 Kb or smaller.  The colour space should be sRGB with a gamma setting of 2.2.  (Please check with Committee if in doubt.)

2.4  Club Slides

This competition is open to all members of the Club (there are no groups). Slides may be in monochrome* or colour and home or trade processed.  All slides MUST be marked with the author’s name, the title of the slide (to assist the Competition Secretary with identification) and spotted (approx 5mm diameter) in the bottom left hand corner of the slide as it is viewed when held in the hand.   Slides must be entered not later than the Thursday of the week preceding the competition night.

3    THE TUDOR CUP  (Monochrome* Prints)

This cup is for the best set of THREE RELATED MONOCHROME*  PRINTS.   Any number of sets may be entered, either home or trade processed, and may be any size.  The author’s name and the title of the print MUST be written on the REVERSE side of each mount.  The prints will be shown as a panel so each mount MUST be marked on the REVERSE side with the position in which they are to be viewed  (ie left, middle, right).  Members may, if they wish, mount all 3 prints onto one mount, which may then be up to a maximum of 600mm x 500mm  including the mount.

4    THE STEWART KNILL TROPHY  (Slides)

This trophy is for the best set of THREE RELATED COLOUR SLIDES.    Any number of sets may be entered, either home or trade processed.  They MUST be all marked with the author’s name, the title of the slide, and spotted in the bottom left hand corner as they are viewed when held in the hand.  As the 3 slides will be projected simultaneously and displayed as a panel, they must be marked for their position (ie left, middle, right).  Slides must be entered not later than the Thursday of the week preceding the competition night.

5.1 Slides

The panel must consist of 5 slides (no more, no less), in monochrome* or colour, and marked with the order from 1 to 5 in which they are to be viewed, with the 1st slide being the lead picture.  All of the slides MUST be marked with the author’s name and spotted in the bottom left hand corner as they are viewed when held in the hand.  Slides must be entered not later than the Thursday of the week preceding the competition night.

5.2 Prints

The panel must consist of 5 prints (no more, no less), in monochrome* or colour, and mounted on a single mount no larger than 600mm X 500mm.  The lead picture is to be noticeably larger than the other four.  The mount MUST be clearly marked on the REVERSE side with the name of the author.
